What Will Your Care Cost?

Long-term care costs are on the rise. While Arkansas is still a more affordable retirement destination than other areas of the country, a 2024 survey by Genworth Financial and CareScout showed that costs increased for several types of long-term care, some outpacing inflation and, in some cases, even national cost growth.
According to the survey, the annual cost to live in an assisted living community in Arkansas grew by 14% in 2024, to an average of $56,688, the largest cost increase among skilled care types in the state. Nationally, assisted living costs grew by only 10%.
The cost for a semi-private room in a nursing home increased at about the rate of inflation, by 2%, to a median of $85,775. That trailed the national cost increase of 7%.
The median cost of a private room in a nursing home in Arkansas, on the other hand, fell by 3% in 2024, compared to a 9% national cost increase. Home health aide costs also fell in the region, by 13%, compared to a 3% rise.
The largest cost increase facing Arkansan seniors is for homemaker services, which can include tasks like housekeeping, grocery shopping and other household tasks a medical professional like a home health aide would not perform. Those services increased in cost by 37% in 2024 in Arkansas, while only rising by 10% nationally.

According to Genworth Financial, inflation was the main factor that contributed to long-term care cost increases, along with labor costs for home care services. See how much costs are expected to increase in the next five years, assuming an inflation rate of 3%.
